A Sewing “Spa” Day!

A sewing “spa” day is how a number of my now regular sewing class attendees describe their days in the sewing room at Spinney Brook Workbox. Having initially come along to re-kindle a skill or start from the very beginning, now in an Own Project Workbox all my enthusiastic ladies enjoy a day away from everyday chores and demands. It is amazing what you can achieve in 6 hours when you can concentrate on the project in hand. The only interruption is a short break for a delicious homemade soup and bread lunch, with tea or coffee taken back upstairs so that work can continue.

Whether it’s getting to grips with a walking foot for quilting in Mendlesham, gorgeous cushion covers for a sofa in Stowupland, a Japanese apron for artwork in Eye, putting in zips for pencil cases in Sudbury, or funky fabric boxes for the kitchen in Kersey, wonderful creations can be completed in a day or, when very ambitious, just need the final touches at home.

Your stay can be extended too, Ann from Hampshire spent a couple of days with her sewing machine and a list of projects: cushion covers, bags, baby quilts to name a few; Penny from South Yorkshire has got to grips with a new machine and made a pencil skirt and a child’s pinafore dress. Goals can be achieved with an uninterrupted spell in the sewing room. Bed and Breakfast at Spinney Brook is also an option for complete immersion.

For me it is so exciting to see how much everyone is now producing. Skills are growing with practice and returners are constantly adding to their repertoires and increasing in confidence. We are all feeding off each other’s ideas with great results.
